This is a question that we hope some of you who have found or at least interviewed nannies can help us out with. Our family is looking to hire a nanny in a few months and we were wondering what are some things that we should be looking for when it’s time to hire?
So far here is what we have:
Criminal background check
Reference checks (but we’re not sure about how many)
when we hired, we made sure to ask if she had experience with children that are the same age as our little one and whether or not she had her own transportation for dropoffs and pickups
@zia_valdez to add to your point on the CPR certification, our old nanny was wiling to get the certfication after we hired her. that can be something to look for
Hey everyone! This will be our second time looking for a nanny. For us, we made sure that the nanny knew how to cook and was willing to do a bit a cleaning since the kids weren’t home during school hours. We also asked that she be comfortable reading to our kids since we think that’s an important part of taking care of our kids. Hope this helped a bit and good luck in your search!
Yes the background check is good also having some written or verbal references from former employers and/or professors will give you an idea of the person’s character and how reliable they are. CPR and First Aid are important, but loving children and being good relating to them are also important.
@Laina60 thank you so much! I didn’t even think about getting references from professors. That is so smart considering there are a lot of younger nannies as well.
